"This Looks Like Food My Grandma Would Make!"

The title of this post was quoted from Ryan after he looked at our first dinner on Rule #2. This means we succeeded with our goal! We cooked a recipe tonight from my great-grandma on my mom's side. It was a german beef noodle soup. We made the noodles from scratch, which I thought was pretty exciting. We both really liked the dinner. It was simple, healthy, yet delicious. See pictures below so you can get inspired to cook like your ancestors! We need a few more recipes for this week so send them our way!

Here I am kneading the dough for the noodles!

Ryan preparing the veggies!

Finished product! Cheers!

Thanks for the recipe and your support Mom! xoxo

  1. Grandma would have been so proud! I'm so glad you liked the Pennsylvania Dutch Pot Pie that I used to make with your grandma. I got pretty emotional after I sent you the recipe. Food really does have a powerful way of making connections with your past. I have fond memories of rolling out the noodle dough with the only family heirloom we had--a cherry wood, hand-carved rolling pin that has been passed down on my father's side of the family for more than 150 years. As family tradition mandated, the rolling pin always went to the wife of the oldest son and it is now with Brian's family and one day will go to Landon. I should send them this recipe.

  2. I was missing grandma and grandpa a lot while we were cooking. Food is powerful! I kept picturing what it was like for them to cook this recipe. When we did not know how much water to add or how to cut up the veggies I kept thinking, "How would grandma do it?" I think you should definitely send Brian an email. Also, thanks for sharing all of the recipes with me. They are very special and telling of our family history!
