One of our "faithful readers" requested we post a list of the 64 rules so he could better anticipate what is to come! Instead of typing out all 64 rules I have included a sidebar section that I will attempt to keep updated with the next few rules. This will allow people to better follow along and even prepare if they too are attempting to join us in this experiment! Hope this is helpful!

That WAS helpful, good suggestion from your reader! So for rule 5, will you have to avoid all sweeteners--including, like, agave nectar and honey?
ReplyDeletethinkofnow-- You are wanting us to give up all our surprises SO soon! :) So, what do YOU think about the rule (like how my social work empowerment-side is coming out)? I am guessing the key word is "listed" meaning that foods with a label that have ANY form of sugar in the top three ingredients we will stay away from. So items likes apples, as they have no label, will be safe. Things like juice, however, may be on the no-no list (if it has ANY form of sugar in the top three ingredients, natural or otherwise). However, none of this is set in stone until Ryan and I have a lengthy debate about the rule. Keep checking back for updates! -Zoe
ReplyDeleteI guess I would be most curious about the juice thing. After all, even no-sugar added juice has TONS of sugar.
ReplyDeleteThat is RULE 5! We are so confused with determining what is and is not food right now thinking about sugar would be tough. I'd say non-sweetened juice would be considered a food...just don't drink a gallon of it. :)

As someone who works in an elementary school with a high poverty rate I have mixed feelings about you throwing away all of the unhealthy food you have. I would suggest giving all the imperishable food that is mostly healthy (i.e. not a lot of chemicals listed on the ingredient list) such as pasta, soups and the like to a food bank so it can be distributed to poor families. Hunger is a serious problem in this country and for the needy I think bad food is better than no food at all. Many of the kids in my school do not eat much on weekends, especially on days far away from paydays because they don't have food. Many of them depend on food banks. More later on trying to educate school kids (and their parents) to eat healthy food. Kudos to Michelle Obama for her efforts!
ReplyDeleteJust so you know, I was not actually going to throw away food. I completely agree that a food bank would be the best option. Except for things like twizzlers....
